I have to be honest. I have no idea how to begin writing about this car.
It is beyond comprehension. For those of you using Mobile Devices have a look at the images below. It is a phenomenal feat from the guys at McLaren. I don't know much about Formula 1, but when their team decides to build street legal road cars - I think I deserve a 'taste' of their workmanship.
This vehicle has been modified and is running slightly over 700hp and 740NM Torque! I don't have any land speed figures for this particular car. The standard McLaren MP4-12C has a 0-60mph time of 2.8 Seconds @ 625hp and 600NM. With Stage 1+ Software Tuning we are running 700hp/740NM Torques. There was a Horror Scene moment when I thought Satan had cracked the Earth's Crust and risen behind me. My soul was weakened and I shuddered with fear. It was the air brake!! Right. I cannot mentally cope with what this car is. One week after driving I am still having difficulty comprehending what happened to me during the drive into Chester (A548), then a spirited blast down the A483 (a road I am familiar with) on my way back towards Sandycroft. The A483 is a great Dual Carriageway that runs through Wrexham and back to Shrewsbury along the A5. I used to use these roads for data logging and short 'blasts' when tuning cars in the area, however I've never seen the roundabouts approach so quickly before. This car is lairy af! Is it legal? Should 700hp be legal? This is a RWD car and its is doing things I didn't think were possible. Its propels me forward. Thrustward! A word that isn't in the English Dictionary, I know. I don't think I want to live anymore.. I can't get this car out of my head. Imagine driving it every day! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh! This car is better than the Ferrari 458 Italia. Feels a lot safer too. This car is BETTER than a Lamborghini Aventador. I'm sorry it has to be said. I think this is the BEST car I have ever driven. Driving a McLaren is like playing with your favourite toy as a kid. McLaren have built a mid-engine RWD car that sits better than a Ferrari. It's stable and less intimidating. Whenever I drive a Ferrari its as though the car is saying ''you have no idea how to drive me, do you?'' then it surprises me by going sideways without warning. Ferrari's are wild but I would very still happily own an F430 ;-) McLaren have perfected perfection in a way that makes me feel comfortable. Very comfortable indeed. The Chassis Incredible. There is no 'tilt' or 'roll' in the chassis whatsoever. The suspension setup in this machine seems to defy physics. This car doesn't 'move' because it is essentially a Formula 1 car. Now I'm getting an understanding of how real racing cars feel. Its tight, but not too bumpy. There is a big difference between good suspension and 'buy-it-now' Coilovers on eBay, but that's a debate I'll never win because a stiff and bouncy MK4 Golf is now considered a Racecar if you live in 'United' Brexit Kingdom. The car sits perfectly. It really makes me want to drive! The Body A beautiful design of yumminess! I consider this an Elegant Super Car, built for one purpose - GOING FAST! It is an aerodynamic display of attraction! I love the front and the back, and get confused over which is better! The doors are the biggest giveaway that I'm driving something heroic. Crowds gathered to take photographs while I had a brief encounter with a traffic warden in Chester City Centre (oops). It is a beautiful car. I will hopefully get another drive this summer, with more video footage. True appreciation comes from not only seeing these vehicles in the flesh, but driving them to get a full understanding of the manufacturers vision. The Throttle Oh sweet mother. There is a lot of power in this vehicle - and I spent a lot of the drive being scared of what happens at W.O.T (wide open throttle). A toenail movement sends the rear tyres into a frenzy. Do not attempt to drive a car like this if you are inexperienced. Seriously. Before learning to drive something like this I would suggest getting used to something a bit weaker (E36/E46 M3) and mastering W.O.T - then moving onto the Porsche 911 Carrera, then GT3, and trying a few other powerful RWD motors before attempting anything as grandeur as the McLaren range. It will probably kill you. The Exhaust For God's sake.. I honestly believe this is the best driving, best feeling, best chassis, and also the best sounding car I have had the pleasure of enjoying. It makes such a naughty sound as the turbos spool- readying themselves to unleash bedlam in my brain and subsequently, the internal organs of whoever dares to drive this thing. This car turns heads. This car makes a LOT of noise. This car is better than a Lamborghini. I've never experienced this before, and is the reason why I love McLaren Taxi Laps at the Nürburgring! Lamborghini's are perfect because I can jump straight in and drive them, and drive them well. The McLaren on the other hand is a full on, non-stop joyride that would probably see my drivers licence revoked after a week of fun! But it would be worth it. What an insane machine! I have seriously never driven anything this good, although my favourite tested Car still has to be the Lamborghini Huracan because it is so easy to manoeuvre as a daily . Both cars could be driven daily - but this may be too much power for my weak soul. I'm not sure if I could drive this car every day without pressing full throttle. Whereas in a Lamborghini its calmer. Actually I don't know. I'm confused! Anyway - massive thanks to Mark Longstaff at Revitupuk in Cheshire! -> http://revitupuk.com/ <- when it comes to cars, he is your guy! Check the website out, he is the busiest and best source for Standard and Modified Sports Hatchback/Coupé/Saloon Cars in the UK! They also have a Facebook page (please like and follow for regular updates and some great car images) -> https://www.facebook.com/Revitupukcom/ <- I'd love to carry on nattering, but I've got work to do ;-) Nicholas Lawrence //ON CARS email -> [email protected] |
